Abu Dhabi launches grant scheme to boost research and innovation in healthcare

Abu Dhabi has launched a new funding scheme to support research and innovation to fight life-threatening diseases.

The emirate’s Ministry of Health said the grant will be made available to those conducting clinical research projects in the field of cardiometabolic and vascular diseases, cancer, Alzheimer’s diseaserare diseases, emerging infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance.

It is also open to those with innovative technological ideas and solutions, focusing on smart hospitals and chronic disease prevention and management, according to the release.

Winners will also receive mentoring to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the project.

Applicants can submit their work www.doh.gov.ae But they should work with a medical facility in Abu Dhabi to finalize and submit their entries.

Applications will be accepted for the next six weeks, but grant amounts have not been announced.

Submissions will be assessed and assessed by an expert committee from the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH) and the Abu Dhabi Council for Health Research and Technology. It will be led by Dr Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Centre of the Ministry of Health.

“We look forward to receiving and reading all entries, and providing guidance to all applicants. This is an exciting milestone for the healthcare industry, and it will create healthy competition among tech fanatics.”

To provide the grants, the Ministry of Health collaborates with the UAE’s healthcare sector, government and non-government entities.

Abu Dhabi aims to be the destination of choice for clinical trials and collaborative medical research.

The emirate is ambitious to build the world’s first whole-population gene bank, pioneering connected health, and builds on previous medical research collaborations with pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

Last year, G42 Healthcare launched Insights Research Organization and Solutions, the first contract research organization of its kind in the UAE to support internationally leading scientific and ethical research standards, conduct clinical trials, and report and develop treatments.

The company was formed after a successful Phase III clinical trial in the country to develop and test a Covid-19 vaccine, with 130 countries participating.

In March, the capital and Pfizer Trained and supported 150 Abu Dhabi scientists to conduct clinical research at the level required by multinational corporations to produce effective medicines.
