Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi has launched a new campaign to encourage road safety awareness in schools across the emirate.
Public transport regulator, Municipalities and the Ministry of Transport’s Integrated Transport Center (ITC), in partnership with transport provider STS Group and safety platform RoadSafety UAE, has launched a school road safety awareness campaign at Horizon Private School in the capital.
The campaign, aimed at ensuring students travel to and from school safely, reached 6,500 students in 20 schools over a six-month period. The campaign will be carried out in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Education and Knowledge, RoadSafetyUAE and its partner STS Group.
The aim of the event is to empower the student community to become advocates for road and traffic safety through a unique learning environment. It will be supported by curated road safety lessons, interactive videos and games.
Interactive workshop
During active workshops, students will be assigned the appropriate level of study based on their grades. They will study road safety management courses and engage in engaging activities through interactive games and quizzes, teaching them to view road safety as an ongoing responsibility.
learning elements
The program of study covers topics such as travel safety protocols on the school bus and on the road, and emergency protocols. One of the learning modules is based on local laws related to the use of personal mobility devices such as bicycles and e-bikes. The campaign also includes an interactive board game designed to teach students about road safety practices and hazard zones around school buses. During the launch, the winners of the game received goodies, one lucky student received a bicycle and another lucky student took home an e-bike.
As ITC works to improve road safety in line with the vision of the Abu Dhabi authorities, this school road safety campaign is of particular importance to ITC and the UAE community. Authorities stress that road safety education must start at home and in school.
“The purpose of this campaign is to instill in children the principles of traffic safety, correct road behavior, and the values of safe driving from an early age. By doing so constructively and systematically, we will contribute to reducing road accidents and help build a Creating a generation of safer drivers,” said Steve Burnell, STS Group Managing Director.
The road safety awareness campaign with ITC is in line with STS Group’s approach to fostering a safety-focused culture within the company and reflects their core values of Safe, Timely and Smart.
Thomas Edelmann, Managing Director of RoadSafetyUAE, said: “Partnership with the education sector on road safety is a key strategic pillar and this public-private partnership is a great example of how strengths can be bundled for a good cause.”
