The visa services company has been instructed to pay Dh5,775 to residents who failed to obtain a Canadian work permit for them.
The young man has filed a lawsuit against the company in the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court, seeking Dh13,000 for failing to obtain a work permit in Canada despite taking his money.
The man said he contracted the company to obtain a Canadian license for him because the company claimed it provided immigration services and issued visas for Western countries.
He noted that he handed the entire amount to the company owner and was given a receipt for Dhs5,775, which was part of the total cash. The man said the company’s boss refused to show him a receipt for the remaining cash.
The plaintiff added that the company owner started avoiding him after receiving the money and did not help him get a visa. He also refused to return his money, prompting him to drag the owner to court.
After hearing the parties, the judge ordered the company to refund Dh5,775 to the plaintiff for failing to obtain a work permit visa for him as agreed in the contract.
The court dismissed the plaintiff’s other claims because he failed to produce a receipt as evidence to confirm that he had paid the company owner in cash.
The company has been told to pay the plaintiff’s legal costs.
