An Abu Dhabi resident who assaulted a woman and suffered head injuries has been ordered to pay her Dh20,000 in damages.

Official court documents said the woman filed a complaint with the Al Ain Civil First Instance Court, demanding that the man pay her Dh100,000 for material and emotional damages she suffered as a result of the assault.

In her lawsuit, the woman alleges that the defendant beat her badly, causing injuries to her forehead, left hand and other parts of her body. After the incident, she said, she spent more than 20 days nursing the injury without a job.

According to the plaintiff, the attacks caused her psychological distress and affected her integrity.

It was not clear in the court documents why the accused attacked the woman. He was earlier convicted by a criminal court and fined Dh3,000.

After hearing the parties, the Civil Court judge issued a ruling ordering the accused to pay the victim Dh20,000. The man was also told to pay the plaintiff’s legal costs.
