“I started coding years ago, I think when I was five or six years old…”
Nine-year-old coder Ehsan Adouane is on a mission to help as many kids as possible “become the best version of themselves”.
Articulated and articulate, Ehsan is different from other kids his age as he is already teaching his peers the importance of coding. On YouTube, his medium of choice, Ehsan has over 1,000 subscribers, while his most popular videos have over 150,000 views.
Ehsan, then five years old, was intrigued by the concept of creating games online. “I originally started with Python because I saw that people were using coding to make video games,” he said.
Ehsan explains in his online tutorial that Python is a higher-level language that is easier to work with. Once he mastered the language, he moved on to C++, an intermediate language.
But why teach?
“Since I was little I have had a passion for teaching and sharing my thoughts and teaching people things that people don’t know yet. I also started seeing on TV that kids don’t have enough to eat and people can’t be their best of myself.”
He added, “So they could have achieved more, but they couldn’t because they didn’t have enough money to go to school. So I had the idea of making a YouTube channel that was about developing people and releasing them the full potential of the…”
Ehsan learns to code online twice a week. He also attended programming and acting summer camps in the US—another passion of his.
Ehsan, who is French-Swedish, credits his parents with putting him on the path to learning to code.
“Abu Dhabi is a unique place”
Ehsan’s father, Karim, added that being in the UAE was key to Ehsan’s growth in the field. The couple moved to Abu Dhabi when Ehsan was six months old, and the switch was to give their son the best possible learning environment.
He added, “We’re very clear, you know, if we want to give our son the best possible framework or opportunity, despite all the love and respect we have for London and Paris and other places we’ve lived, or his mother’s Stockholm [who is Swedish] – Especially Abu Dhabi, is a unique place. “
“Honestly I think [being in Abu Dhabi] A catalyst for the development of Ehsan’s talent. “
Speaking of how his parents discovered his interest, Karim laughs: “He would see us working on a laptop, I think when he was five, he couldn’t even read and I bought him a laptop .”
Coding is just one of the 9-year-old’s many passions. In addition to his interests in theater and acting, Ehsan is a dedicated martial artist, skilled horse rider and avid alpine skier.
Tips for Young YouTubers
How does he find the time to do everything? Ehsan said school was easy, so he spends most of his free time learning and teaching coding.
Ehsan has a few pieces of advice for upcoming YouTubers of his age. “It starts with knowing how to present something. Watch TED shows and learn how to present yourself and your subject,” he added.
Speaking of the UAE, Ehsan said: “I am very lucky to be in such a great country, in the UAE, because without it, I would not have been able to develop as I am now.”
“And I also like it because it’s very international. People from all over the world can come and I can talk to them face-to-face and share and teach ideas.”
