Abu Dhabi meeting discusses energy security and climate progress

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) welcomed Eighth annual Abu Dhabi CEO Roundtable for energy leaders from Abu Dhabi.

A roundtable at the Adnoc Business Center brought together 35 of the world’s leading energy industry CEOs to discuss how energy security, equitable access to energy and climate progress can be achieved simultaneously. During their deliberations, they also discussed the components needed for an actual, realistic energy transition.

Sheikh Khalid welcomed the CEOs to the roundtable and praised Adnoc for bringing together executives from the energy industry. He also expressed hope that their discussions will help to find practical solutions to the challenges of the energy transition.

While considering the triple dilemma of providing safe, accessible, and sustainable energy, roundtable participants discussed practical solutions, including decarbonizing hydrocarbon production processes, leveraging hydrocarbon infrastructure to expand hydrogen production, expanding available Renewable energy and increased investment in other clean technologies can reduce emissions from heavy industry.

The annual roundtable is a unique and exclusive, invitation-only gathering held under Chatham House rules. It provides a high-level forum for the evolving dynamic dialogue in the energy industry and showcases Abu Dhabi’s voice in the conversation around the energy security, access and sustainability trilemma, and its role as the global hub of the world’s energy industry. status.

Dr Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of Adnoc, said: “The hydrocarbon industry is uniquely positioned to provide a practical solution to the trilemma of safe, accessible and sustainable energy. solutions and will play a key role. The roundtable takes place on the eve of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2022, one of the largest and most influential events in the global oil and gas industry, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on 3 November held.

Khaled meets Inpex and bp CEOs: Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a meeting with Inpex President and CEO Takayuki Ueda and bp CEO Bernard Looney.

During the meeting, the partners discussed cooperation to enhance energy security and advance the energy transition, as well as opportunities to strengthen partnerships and drive greater collaboration on low-carbon energy solutions.

Sheikh Khalid also discussed ways to capitalize on renewable energy and hydrogen opportunities and expand existing relationships for a more sustainable future.

The sessions follow the eighth Abu Dhabi CEO Roundtable – which brings together 35 energy leaders from around the world to discuss how to deliver equitable energy access and climate progress while delivering energy security – and the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Conference Eve Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), to be held at ADNEC on 3 November.

Today, the UAE leads global clean and renewable energy efforts through its strategies and investments in the sector. In 2021, the UAE announced the UAE’s Strategic Plan for Net Zero Emissions by 2050, which will invest more than AED600 billion in clean and renewable energy by 2050.

This makes it the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to launch such an initiative. The UAE has always been through announcing effective solutions to support the low carbon sector and leading projects that support the country’s future strategies and aspirations, such as Masdar City in Abu Dhabi and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar project Parks in Dubai that support global efforts to combat climate change.

The UAE has dedicated international agencies for the green economy, such as the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi and the World Green Economy Organization in Dubai, among other leading organisations.
