Abu Dhabi mega project Guggenheim will open in 2026

[ad_1]

A five-year plan is in place…

Trying to determine the expected completion date of the Abu Dhabi outpost of the Guggenheim Museum can sometimes feel as tricky as naming Banksy.

The project was first announced in 2006, with a start date of 2012.Then it went back to 2017, and this date also came and went. “Our architecture is full of challenges,” said Richard Armstrong, director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, in the press conference reported. Art News“This will be his later masterpiece” (referring to architect Frank Gehry).

Frank Gehry himself described his vision for the Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi as “deliberately’messy’, becoming clear.”

Armstrong also gave another definite and realistic timetable for completion “We think it should be five years from next week… It looks like everything is coming together, so we can say something clear This is a relatively long gestation period.”

Upon completion, the museum will add a jagged surprise to the already dazzling skyline of the Saadiyat Cultural District.

True to its spirit, the architectural plan-cuts down a modern, unconventional, but very beautiful design. One contains a nod to its host country, such as the funnel-shaped protrusion that occupies the outer part, and is inspired by the historic wind towers in the area.

Art work

The same on the outside, the same on the inside. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum will exhibit modern and contemporary art works by some of the most important creators of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Abu Dhabi Culture stated that the museum will “specially emphasize the art of West Asia, North Africa and South Asia” and will showcase “the interconnected nature of today’s art world, where cross-cultural inspiration and cross-cultural communication have become the norm.”

The Guggenheim exhibition will be curated around grand themes around the works of individual artists, the history of various art movements, and the works of multiple artists across time and space.

Build something special

The core of the museum will provide 13,000 square meters of gallery space, and the above-mentioned tapered structure adds further exhibition landscape.

The gallery will surround the four-story atrium, connected by a glass bridge. The design includes 11 cone-shaped units in which museum guests will be able to view the unique collection of leading contemporary artists.

Due to its coastal location, the building will also include some very incredible views, including the Arabian Gulf and the back of Saadiyat Island.

The cone of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum is designed to provide ventilation and shade to the open-air courtyard area of the museum.

Once completed, it will provide more cultural credibility to Abu Dhabi’s already considerable influence. On Saadiyat Island alone, we have the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi Museum of Art at New York University, and Berkeley Abu Dhabi. And breathtaking Zayed National Museum, Look forward to in the near future.
