Abu Dhabi: Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium to host Egyptian Super Cup on May 5

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced that the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in the capital Abu Dhabi will host the 2021-2022 Egyptian Super Cup.

League winner Zamalek and cup winner Al Ahly will meet on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 8.30pm UAE time.

The competition is based on a memorandum of understanding signed between the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Egyptian Football Federation. This includes hosting the Egyptian Super Cup twice in a row, since the last Super Cup was held at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain in October 2022, which was won by Al Ahly. In a festive mood on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Egypt-UAE relations.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “The upcoming tournament represents a continuation of Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s plans to attract regional, continental and international sporting events, reinforcing the Council’s ambitious plans to bring Abu Dhabi Dhabi has become the ideal venue for top-level air competitions, which are very popular and have a long history.”

Al Awani welcomed the hosting of the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium, which builds on its reputation as an architectural landmark of excellence, excellence and uniqueness.

Al Awani concluded by saying: “After the success of past editions, we are proud to embrace the Egyptian Super Cup once again. We welcome the two poles of Egyptian football in the capital Abu Dhabi and hope that both teams will be able to showcase in a joyous and carnival atmosphere, This matches the reputation of bright Egyptian football.”

The first Super Match was held at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE in October 2015, which Al Ahly and Zamalek won 3-2, and the second Super Match was held at the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in February 2017, which Zamalek won in 2018. 3-1 on penalties in January.
