Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), inaugurated a new bridge linking the east and west of Baniyas in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

The new bridge on Al Ain Road (E22) in Abu Dhabi will significantly improve traffic flow in and out of Baniyas and other nearby areas.

The travel time between Baniyas East and Baniyas West has been reduced from 11 minutes to only 3 minutes, benefiting local residents.

The interchange can accommodate approximately 1,400 vehicles per hour from E22 Abu Dhabi/Al Ain and 1,100 vehicles per hour from East Baniyas or West Baniyas.

The project includes construction of the upper intersection connecting East Banias and West Banias, associated roads, conversion of the current East Banias roundabout into a signalized intersection, and construction of pedestrian ramps. In addition, the project involves the demolition of existing pedestrian tunnels, transport and protection of water supply and communication lines, irrigation lines and sewage pipes, as well as street lighting and electricity distribution networks.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director General, DMT Operations; Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Municipality;

Dr Salem Al Kaabi and Saif Badr Al Qubaisi hailed Abu Dhabi’s new bridge as a major milestone for the city, demonstrating its commitment to modernity and progress.

The innovative design and state-of-the-art functionality of the new bridge demonstrates Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainable services and meeting societal expectations, while promoting economic growth in the process.

Al Qubaisi further emphasized that the new bridge underscores the municipality’s commitment to continuous improvement and development of key infrastructure components on Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland.

The project includes the construction of the main bridge with a concrete slab and inner and outer pillars, and two bridges with a single sea slab, pillars and foundation. It includes the installation of CCTV systems, traffic lights, pedestrian signs, fiber optic cables and connections to the Abu Dhabi Traffic Management Centre, as well as the implementation of natural cosmetics, sanitation and speed camera transmissions.

The interchange has 210 energy-saving light poles, and the project covers an area of ​​195,580 square meters.
