More than 100 women took part in the 4km relay walkathon to promote yoga and fitness, encourage a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the importance of regular physical activity in Abu Dhabi.
The Walking Challenge is organized by the Indian Science Forum and Mussaffa Arts Society and its Bani Yas chapter. It is part of a series of events planned ahead of the celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21.
For the walking challenge, participants were divided into six teams and saw exciting competition as the relay progressed, organizers said.
Next up will be a Children’s Weight Loss Challenge and Drawing Competition at Ahalia Hospital, followed by a big event at Bright Riders School on June 17th ahead of International Yoga Day.
Radhika Movvar, clinical dietitian at Ahalia Hospital in Musaffah, who marked the walk-athon, said such events are an effective way to raise awareness of health issues among community members.
“I’m excited to be a part of this. Eating a healthy, balanced diet along with physical activity contributes to overall physical and mental health. Incorporating a 30-minute walk into your routine can lead to many health benefits from improved heart health, weight loss, better sleep, and more. Let this International Day of Yoga bring many health benefits to everyone’s life,” said Movvar.
Both the Science India Forum and the Musaffah Art Society hold regular community events, including student involvement and other social work.
