Abu Dhabi police have moved aggressively in an ongoing effort to enhance community safety, arresting two Arabs on charges of attempting to smuggle narcotic pills into a neighbouring country.
This was revealed by Brigadier General Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Chief of the Anti-Narcotics Department of Abu Dhabi Police.
He said the operation was a success after implementing a strict security plan to track attempts and monitor the defendants’ movements.
“One of the defendants carried out an operation abroad and then completed it by smuggling drugs into a neighbouring country, believing that he was out of sight of the police,” Brigadier General Al Dhaheri said.
He added that in an ambush, DEA security forces arrested the main defendant and his assistants, who were in possession of narcotic pills.
Brigadier General Al Dhaheri explained that the two defendants tried to smuggle drugs through a new method, hiding pills in rolls inside garbage bags, but their bids were thwarted.
They admitted that the narcotic pills belonged to them and were peddled. As such, they were handed over to the public prosecution for further legal measures at the time of their seizure, he added.
The Chief of the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Abu Dhabi Police highlighted the Abu Dhabi Police’s passion to combat the scourge of drugs and to deal with it effectively and skillfully in a variety of modern ways and means.
He further pointed out that despite the various methods used by the promoters, they always failed due to the vigilance of the police team and the authorities concerned.
