The move comes as the UAE further eases Covid-19 precautions. An Al Hosn Green Pass is still required to enter these locations, which allows for 30 days of entry if the PCR test is negative.
“As directed by the Abu Dhabi Covid-19 Pandemic Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee, EDE and thermal scans and events of commercial and tourist facilities have been cancelled. Instead, a green pass should be applied for,” said the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.
These scanners have come into use during the pandemic as another way to detect potentially infected people.
They detect changes in electromagnetic waves to determine whether the virus may be present in the human body.
Those found to be potentially infected will be asked to undergo a PCR test to confirm their status. They will also be denied entry to malls and other establishments until a negative result is returned.
The decision comes a month after officials announced it would no longer be mandatory Face mask Indoors, while outdoor mask requirements fell in February.
