After obtaining the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, Abu Dhabi received the world’s first shipment of AstraZeneca’s long-acting antibody drug Evusheld. This long-acting antibody drug is designed to prevent severe infections and deaths in patients with weakened immune systems.
This medication will complement the existing COVID-19 medications in Abu Dhabi and the UAE to ensure the continuity of world-class care in the country.
Under the leadership of the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health (DoH), and with the cooperation of major partners including Rafed, UAE major group procurement organizations and procurement departments, the first dose of Evusheld arrived in Abu Dhabi on December 20, 2021 Than Emirates, Etihad Cargo, the national cargo airline of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company AstraZeneca, and Abu Dhabi Airports Corporation (ADAC).
Breakthrough drugs will be stored in the distribution center of Rafed, the largest cold chain storage facility in the region, and then distributed to various destinations from there.
This cooperation is another important milestone for healthcare, logistics and supply chain entities, and they will continue to contribute to the development of Abu Dhabi’s medical industry.
