Abu Dhabi reshapes healthcare through digital transformation

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi has set itself the goal of becoming one of the world’s leading healthcare destinations, with its acceleration in digital transformation and the emirate’s pandemic response closely watched in the Middle East and Africa.

The 10-year digital transformation strategy, led by the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health, is based on a patient-first approach and aims to deliver insight-driven and value-based care to deliver cutting-edge preventive, universal and personalized medicine to the nation.

Already linking healthcare to the implementation of health information exchange – Malaffi – DOH is looking to further integrate healthcare data, apply AI analytics to gain advanced insights for decision making, and create an integrated platform serving the entire industry, creating an environment that Promoted the development of innovative digital tools.

“As part of the action plan, over the past year we have seen the Ministry of Health sign strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical and research organisations aimed at generating innovative medicines and clinical trials,” said Atif Al Braiki, CEO of Malafi . “Many initiatives and accelerators of ingenuity and creativity have been supporting and encouraging the private start-up sector.”

Al Braiki, who will be speaking at HIMSS22 this week about digitalisation of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, said they have seen encouraging feedback from healthcare providers who are interested in benefiting from digitalisation to provide patients with better good care and improve operational efficiency.

“Many user reviews and different use cases suggest that access to unified clinical data saves duplication of tests and services, increases coordination, reduces errors, and improves clinical decision-making,” he said.

By using predictive AI models on historical aggregated data, Malafi can now predict (cohort and individual) patient health and cost risks to develop certain chronic diseases, complications, visits and readmissions.

According to Al Braiki, these insights enable the implementation of targeted preventive measures at both the population health level and the individual patient level, thereby reducing risk, improving the overall well-being of the population and reducing cost pressures.

Ensuring healthcare providers have access to high-quality and standardized data is a fundamental prerequisite for enabling interoperability and the use of digital technologies to transform healthcare, he added. By accessing aggregated patient data, the Malafi team identified specific gaps and issues in data quality. Based on analysis and improving data quality, the Ministry of Health has issued targeted coding standards guidance to healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi.

The widespread adoption of these standards, such as SNOMED CT and LOINC, promises to significantly improve interoperability, increase the clinical value of data, and improve the accuracy and scope of population health insights, according to Al Braiki.

“Based on a vision to reimagine health, the Ministry of Health will continue to build an integrated, more resilient and [outcomes-focused] A healthcare system that provides future security for the emirate’s population,” he said.

Al Braiki’s HIMSS22 conference “Reinventing Healthcare: Digital Transformation in Abu Dhabi” is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15th from 4:15-5:15pm in room W207C.
