Abu Dhabi, September 10: On September 10, Abu Dhabi’s St. Joseph’s Konkani Community (SJKC) celebrated the Monthi Fest under the guidance of spiritual mentor, Father Derick D’Souza OFM Cap. The festivities are held in the church with joy and piety.
The festivities begin with 9 days of novenas. The evening included devotional hymns, gospel readings, children’s flower offerings to Infant Mary and Eucharist celebrations. Novenas also includes a spiritual nourishment speech by Father Joy De Sousa from Bangalore.
Festive celebrations take place on September 10th. A large group of children of all ages laid flowers to the Virgin Mary in the church courtyard, and about 1,500 Conkani Christians took part in the solemn Eucharist celebration.
Officiating was Father Arvin Dias of Karnataka Capuchin Province. Mass was presided over by Fathers Darrick de Sousa and Father Joy. The ceremony begins with the traditional hymn “Sakkad Sangatha Melyan”, accompanied by the singing of “Moriyek Hogollsiyan” with flowers to the baby mother Mary.
Newly harvested new khans (rice) are blessed in the Grotto of Our Lady.
The Konkani Choir, led by Derral Dsouza and the team, received widespread appreciation and applause from the audience. After Mass, the 10th and 12th graders were honoured with final exam scores above 80%. Appreciation letters were also issued to various individuals who have provided outstanding service to the Konkani community in 2021-22. SJKC Principal Lancy D’Souza sent thank you votes to the authorities and various supporters. After Mass, khanshi and noven jevan food packs are distributed to the gathering as they disperse.
Monthi Fest is an unforgettable festival for the Konkani Catholic community in Abu Dhabi. The community beautifully and religiously experiences one of Mangaluru’s most revered traditions.
