Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023 tackles climate change

UAE President HH Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ADSW will set the sustainable development agenda ahead of COP28 (UAE Climate Conference).

The Gulf and the Middle East are becoming epicenters of climate change. Saudi Arabia’s Sharm el-Sheikh green initiative in Egypt set the tone for this year, and Abu Dhabi in the UAE will continue in 2023.

Taking place from 14-19 January, ADSW will bring together Heads of State, policy makers, industry leaders, investors, youth and entrepreneurs for a series of meaningful discussions on the transition period under the theme “Uniting for Climate Action at COP28”. Key stakeholders at COP28 will discuss priorities for the global climate agenda, the need for engagement and engagement of all stakeholders in society, and how the assessment of the first global stocktake of the Paris Agreement can be used to accelerate the climate process at COP28 and beyond .

ADSW can serve as an ideal platform to accelerate the adoption of clean technologies and create partnerships that enable They are able to scale globally and leave no one behind.”

ADSW 2023 will feature for the first time a Green Hydrogen Summit hosted by Masdar’s Green Hydrogen business, highlighting its potential to decarbonize key industries – helping countries achieve net-zero emissions targets.

Earlier this month, Masdar officially announced a new shareholding structure and launched its green hydrogen business – forming a clean energy powerhouse leading global decarbonization efforts. Masdar is now one of the largest clean energy companies of its kind and is well positioned to lead the industry globally, strengthening the UAE’s role as an energy leader.

ADSW 2023, the first international sustainable development conference of the year, will drive discussion and debate around climate action ahead of COP28. Hosted by Masdar, the ADSW summit on January 16 will focus on a wide range of key themes including food and water security, energy access, industrial decarbonisation, health and climate adaptation.

ADSW 2023 will also seek to engage youth in climate action, with its Youth Sustainability Platform featuring a Y4S hub aiming to engage 3,000 young people. ADSW 2023 will also host the annual forum of Masdar’s Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy (WiSER) platform, giving women a greater voice in the sustainability debate.

As in previous years, ADSW 2023 will also feature partner-led events and opportunities for international engagement on sustainability-related topics, including the International Renewable Energy Agency’s IRENA Congress, the Atlantic Council Energy Forum, the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum and the World Future Energy Summit.

The 2023 ADSW will also mark the 15th anniversary of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s groundbreaking global award for sustainability excellence. With 96 winners in the Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High School categories, the award has positively impacted the lives of more than 378 million people around the world, including Vietnam, Nepal, Sudan, Ethiopia, Maldives and Tuva Lu.

Over the years, the awards have provided communities around the world with access to quality education, clean food and water, quality healthcare, energy, jobs, and improved community safety.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for approximately 90% of global businesses, and ADSW 2023 will welcome more than 70 SMEs and start-ups from multiple industries, including Masdar City’s global initiative, Innovate, which will showcase groundbreaking international technology.
