Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum to be carbon neutral platform

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) has announced that its landmark fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum (ADSFF) will be a carbon neutral event and platform.

ADGM will partner with AirCarbon Exchange (ACX) to achieve its carbon neutral status through an offset program. This is done by purchasing carbon credits from projects that work to reduce or absorb carbon emissions.

ADSFF is a purpose-driven collective effort platform for the UAE’s financial sector to facilitate sustainable financing and investment in projects and initiatives that enhance the country’s national climate goals and ambitions for a better, more sustainable future.

ADSFF is a strategic extension of ADGM’s commitment to support the UAE’s Net Zero Strategic Initiative by 2050 and its commitment to a prosperous and sustainable economy. The forum will bring together international government policymakers, top global institutional investors, regulators, financial institutions, entrepreneurs and innovators to share best practices and discuss industry challenges.

The forum will also promote and stimulate new areas of cross-border cooperation to intensify efforts to promote sustainable financing and accelerate the flow of capital to sustainable investments and projects.

Commenting on the forum, ADGM Chairman Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi said: “This is the mandate of ADGM and one of the key priorities to promote sustainable financing and responsible investment and address climate change and sustainability issues affecting the financial sector, economic and Long-term well-being of the UAE. As evidenced by its Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative and as the convener of COP28, the UAE has remained proactive and forward-looking in its engagement and sustainability actions.

As Abu Dhabi’s progressive international financial centre, ADGM will continue to step up its efforts to support Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification agenda and the UAE’s commitment to a sustainable future for its people and the country. Reducing ADSFF’s carbon footprint is not only the right thing to do, it’s a smart business decision. “

The 4th ADSFF is a highly anticipated forum bringing together key industry thought leaders and entrepreneurs, including Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute Conference and Council, Secretary-General of the Eighth United Nations; Younis Al Khoori, UAE Treasurer Deputy Minister; Mohamed Ali AL Shorafa, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development; Mohammed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC); Dr Maryam Al Suwaidi, Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA); US Securities Mary Shapiro, former Chairman of the Exchange Commission and Vice-Chairman of the Glasgow Net Zero Alliance (GFANZ); Jean Lemir, Chairman of BNP Paribas; Maria Ferraro, Executive Board Member and Chief Financial Officer of Siemens Energy, to name a few.

ADSFF topics include how regulations can support sustainability, innovation, connecting investors to opportunities, using Islamic finance to support climate mitigation and adaptation, and more.
