Abu Dhabi: Playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 league has greatly improved Alex Hales while tackling spinners and format has added to his game and it feels like the England opener was the closest to winning a T20 World Cup earlier this month part of the team.

“It (Abu Dhabi T10) has really improved my game with spin over the last few years and it’s still an area where I want to get better, so I’ll definitely try and build as much as I can in the back-and-forth. In the next few weeks,” said Hales, who will represent Abu Dhabi in the league.

Hales is one of the most explosive batsmen in modern cricket and whenever he steps out to bat he gives ample evidence of his batting prowess.

Right-handers also feel like playing differently in different countries all year round, each time having to stay ahead in certain aspects of their game.

“On subcontinental pitches, you don’t usually favor spin, you have to make sure you adjust your approach. I think that’s one of the keys to being a franchise cricketer.

“Because you race throughout the year in different countries and in different conditions, you have to be on top of certain aspects of the game all the time, otherwise you’ll be caught out pretty quickly,” the Brit added.

While Hales’ talent and style of play are well documented, he explained that playing franchise cricket on a global scale required constant improvement of his skills. Hales noted that the T10 format added even more to his game.

“I liked the two seasons I played before, I felt like I always left the tournament with a better player, especially when playing T20 again. The game you play in T10, you have to start with the first ball , I think it always helps you in T20 format as well,” he said.

Hales went on to add that taking on the spinners in Asian conditions took some getting used to, noting that his training in India has helped him achieve his goals so far.

The Briton is in good form for the 2022 T20 World Cup with 212 runs from six games. It is worth mentioning that in the semi-final match against India, he was only 47 out of 86.

“I’ve played a lot of cricket in the UAE so I’m very familiar with what to expect so hopefully I’ll start right away.

“Our training schedule is really tight, but in the past, I have spent time in training camps in India, so I have a general idea of my game plan. I have my own methods, and I hope they can be used this time Make a difference in the game,” Hales said.
