Abu Dhabi T10: Muhammad Waseem’s provocative move puts New York forward ahead of Spurs for final

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi, 3 December New York Strikers advanced to the sixth Abu Dhabi T10 final with a four-wicket win over Samp Army in their first qualifier at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday .

UAE opener Mohammad Wasim made local fans proud with a responsible 36-match unbeaten run, securing victory for the New York forwards. The New York Strikers bowlers also displayed disciplined bowling, limiting the Samp Army to 81 off 9 overs.

Chasing the medium score, Waseem brought the New York forwards on target with nine balls to go through his defiant 36-run unbeaten run, despite conceding five wickets for 46 at the halfway stage. Waseem’s strikes came from 16 balls with 3 boundaries and 3 sixes.

New York Strikers won the toss and elected to field. Samp Army got off to a disastrous start by conceding two wickets from Akeal Hosein in the first over. On the fourth ball he allowed Johnson Charles to throw a thud into the middle but he missed and scored 1 and on the next ball he put Karim Karim Janat hits the stump of the pitching cleanly.

Skipper Moeen Ali took the second ball from Matiullah Khan, over the boundary line for extra cover. Basil Hameed hit Matiullah on the bunker first for six. Fifteen runs are over.

Moeen and Basil couldn’t have any freedom in the third inning when Hosein pitched. In fact, Hussein could have had Maughan out on the fifth pitch if Jordan Thompson hadn’t lost an easy catch on the long pitch. Hussein lost just four runs in that game.

Basil Hameed fell to Ravi Rampaul in the next game, scoring nine. Rampaul also hit the fourth ball, Moeen Ali was caught by Thompson who dropped him earlier but this time for 12 in the deep mid-wicket.

Thompson also made an acrobatic effort on the middle wicket boundary line to catch Dwaine Pretorius off Rashid Khan. The shot avoided Thompson’s outstretched hands for a six. Pretorius also hit Rashid Khan’s third ball to the center post. At halftime, the Samps made 4 of 46 shots.

Half of the Samp Army went back to the bench for 46 points when Pretorius was caught by Rashid Khan for 15 on Thompson’s long-range shot. David Miller walked in and hit the first pitch he faced, which went through extra coverage.

More disaster struck for the Samp Army when Shimron Hetmyer was 1-run by Paul Stirling. Chamika Karunaratne picked a boundary off Rashid Khan’s fourth ball in the seventh over.

The regular wicket drop also continued in the eighth innings when Wahab Riaz allowed Karunaratne to be caught for five by Kieron Pollard in long overs. David Miller hit 6 to pull Thompson to the back leg, but fell to the next ball to hit the air and Matiullah Khan scored 13.

Wahab Riaz scored just six runs on his last pitch. He also knocked off Sheldon Cottrell with the last ball of the innings and was caught by Stirling in the diminutive third man for six. As a result, the Samp Army was limited to 81 for 9 in 10 overs.

The New York forwards started chasing the consistent Eoin Morgan and Paul Stirling. Morgan hit Cottrell’s third and fourth pitches to get off to a positive start, his first six. The first six were over in the long run and the second was in the middle wicket. Mahesh Theekshana cleared Sterling on the second ball of the second period.

Muhammad Waseem, who is on a 45-match unbeaten run against Team Abu Dhabi in Friday’s final game, hit Theekshana’s last kick in the final Score 6 over par. Karim Janat picked Morgan’s prize wicket for 14 off the fifth ball of the third innings.

Waseem hit Pretorius’ third pitch to go six more in the long game. Azam Khan also hit Pretorius’ fifth ball for a boundary.

Theekshana hit twice in the fifth. With the fifth ball of the fifth innings, he had Azam Khan overtaken by Karunaratne for 12 runs from long range, and on the next ball he had Jordan Thompson overtaken by wicketkeeper Johnson Charles.

Waseem continued to score free, unaffected by the wicket collapse. He batted Karim Janat for 6 overs on his second over and chipped the next ball over the back point to the boundary. After the fifth and sixth balls, Wasim picked the boundary to make it 18 for the last 24 balls.

Kieron Pollard was brought down by a duck on the first pitch of the seventh inning, caught and delivered by Karunaratney. Rashid Khan reduced the tension at the border to the middle wicket.

The New York forward needs 11 points over the next three rounds. Rashid Khan hit Cottrell’s boundary to close the gap, but Cottrell left him nine behind when he needed seven over the next 13 balls.

Hosein hit Karunaratne’s third pitch in the ninth inning over the boundary to secure his team’s spot in the final. Waseem is unbeaten in 36 games.
