Abu Dhabi’s Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) said an Abu Dhabi manufacturer of tissue paper has been directed to stop selling its products and withdraw them from the market for not meeting accurate quantity specifications.
Sultan Al Muhairi, director of business development and customer happiness at the council, said the decision was made after receiving complaints from consumers about a shortage of tissues in the products.
The Consumer Council purchased a product sample from the local market, and after laboratory verification, it was found that the product did not meet the exact quantity required by the mandatory requirement.
Al Muhairi said the committee issued a warning to the manufacturer of the non-conformity, which in turn led to an immediate cessation of sales of the product.
Sales reps and management were notified to stop selling the product at all outlets and to withdraw it immediately while the manufacturer traced the production line to find out why it was out of stock and prevent it from happening again.
Al Muhairi said the committee has been committed to continuing to implement regular control activities to inspect pre-packaged products at Abu Dhabi outlets and to ensure that the quantities are completely accurate – and that the percentage of products confirmed to be in compliance with the mandatory requirements is 99 per cent.
From the start to the end of the third quarter of this year, the committee has verified about 24,000 pre-packaged items from markets, factories and key suppliers, representing 936 products.
Al Muhairi stressed the importance of consumer feedback by informing marketing and consumer services of pre-packaged products that do not meet specifications, especially in terms of accuracy of quantity or weight, by contacting the call center at 800555.
