Abu Dhabi to break record 24 F1 race calendar

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi will host the final race of the 2023 season after Formula 1’s governing body announced a record 24-race calendar.

Yas Marina Circuit Signed up to host the final race of the F1 season until 2030 and will take place in 2023 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix November 26.

An addition to the calendar will see Las Vegas debut its floodlights a week ago. Meanwhile, Monaco signed a new deal to secure its place on the calendar until at least 2025.

“The 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar are further evidence of the sport’s growth and appeal globally,” said FIA President Mohammad bin Sulayem.

“The addition of new venues and the retention of traditional events underscores the good stewardship of the sport by the FIA,” UAE added.

The Las Vegas Strip Tour, dated November 18, is the penultimate round of the season and the third round in the United States. It will also be the first game to be played on a Saturday since 1985.

“The Las Vegas Grand Prix will take the F1 race weekend to the next level,” said Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali. “The whole city is excited for next year’s race.”

Along the famous Las Vegas Strip, the 6.12-kilometer Grand Prix will see drivers pass landmarks such as the Bellagio Fountains and Caesars Palace and is expected to attract 170,000 fans.

Monaco, F1’s most glamorous race in history, had its future in question during renewal talks earlier this year.

Formula 1 said it had now signed a new three-year deal with the Automobile Club of Monaco, which its president Michel Boeri added could be renewed.

The principality retained its traditional May 28 position as the eighth and mid-part of the third race against Imola, Italy, and the Circuit de Catalunya, near Barcelona, Spain.

This season was supposed to have a record 23 games, but that was reduced to 22 due to the cancellation of Russia’s games in Sochi following the invasion of Ukraine.

Bahrain will start the season on March 5, with the next race at the Jeddah Street Circuit in Saudi Arabia on March 19.

The calendar also avoids conflict with the 24 Hours of Le Mans sports car race, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary on June 10-11 next year.

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 9 will take place the weekend before the men’s and women’s tennis finals at Wimbledon on July 15-16.

The traditional August break was maintained, with Belgium being the last game before the end of July – after Hungary – rather than the first after that.

Belgium’s long-term future remains uncertain, with organisers only signing a one-year extension last month.

Qatar will play on October 8, returning as the fourth round of the Middle East event after this year’s absence with the host nation 2022 FIFA World Cup.

China last hosted a race in 2019 and returned despite uncertainty over Covid-19 restrictions, while France’s race at Le Castellet circuit Paul Ricard near Marseille has been shut down as previously announced. Cancel.

Azerbaijan and Miami continue their back-to-back matches on April 30 and May 7, respectively.
