Abu Dhabi to host 27th Jiu-Jitsu World Championships next month

LAS VEGAS: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says Saturday’s decisive trilogy victory over arch-rival Gennady Golovkin will bring him back to the top of boxing and recognized in the world The best boxer ever.

Alvarez will make his second attempt to defeat the hard-line Kazakhs after a contentious victory in the most recent contested battle in 2018, amid shouts from loyal fans celebrating Mexico’s Independence Day on Friday.

As the super middleweight bout gets underway, the Mexican superstar, the undisputed 168-pound heavyweight champion, has a chance to lose his last fight — to Dmitri Bivor at featherweight — — Revenge – The best pound in the eyes of boxing.

Golovkin, 40, will make his debut at heavyweight, but the weight should suit the middleweight champ, saying Alvarez was lucky to get a draw in his first bout in 2017, then for “Triple G” The only loss of his career.

The fighters made no secret of their distaste for each other, further fueling the rivalry after Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in March 2018, delaying Game 3 until now.

Alvarez is determined to knock out Golovkin for the first time in his storied career, a suspension that will cement the Mexican’s place among the all-time greats.

“It’s one of the biggest fights of my life because there is competition between us and the third fight will be the most important,” Alvarez told AFP.

“The fact that he’s thinking it might be his last makes him dangerous. I’m going to leave everything in the ring.

“From the first round, I was looking for opportunities. It was as edgy as I was a while before the fight.”

Alvarez went 57-2-2 with 39 knockouts, while Golovkin went 42-1-1 with 37 knockouts and three world titles at 160-pound middleweight.

The loss at Bivol has not dented Alvarez’s confidence in his place in boxing.

“I think I’m the best fighter in the world right now,” Alvarez said. “No one takes risks like I do, I don’t need to take risks, but I love challenges and I still feel like I’m the best.

“I just want to punish him hard. I’m close to doing that. He pretends to be a good guy, but he’s not. He says a lot about me (stuff) and that’s what I don’t like. He’s a great Warrior, but as a person? I don’t think so.

“The competition goes back a few years and I like that it’s personal. It motivates me even more by making me train like crazy. I listen to what he says, but at the end of the day he’s just making excuses. I listen, But don’t take it to heart or on board.

“I don’t like when we’re talking in person, he’s lying, and he’s a different person.”

Meanwhile, Golovkin feels the Mexican lose touch with reality after an all-out loss to the bigger, stronger Bivor earlier this year as Alvarez sees him at another weight class Attempts at domination failed.

“He went on to say that he was not afraid of any challenge and saved face,” Golovkin said. “At the same time, he didn’t take Bivol seriously for what he said in the press conference. He concluded that the loss brought him back to Earth.

“He lost touch with reality and believed that he was invincible. The confidence is there, but after you obviously lost, you raised your arms and said you only lost a few games? That’s what I meant.

“I’m calm and confident. My nervous system tells me it’s business as usual. I expect him to make fewer mistakes. I know what kind of battle we’re going to face, and I’m fully prepared.”
