Amazon University Esports Masters MENA series (Amazon UEM) will officially kick off the first edition in the region’s history with a live event from July 14-17 at Pixel Gaming headquarters (Al Quana Mall in Abu Dhabi). University teams from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Morocco will take part in the event in the UAE capital.
These countries show rapid growth and high demand for modern games and are steadily becoming the best markets to support and enhance the gaming industry. Finalists will compete against each other in Riot Games’ most important titles: League of Legends and VALORANT.
Organized by MENATech Entertainment, Amazon UEM is the premier event in the global academic esports environment, giving students the opportunity to compete internationally and represent their institutions and countries. Qualifiers for the competition are held in April and May, and the eight best teams from the MENA region will broadcast the finals live in July.
Not only will Amazon UEM MENA crown its first edition champions, but it will also offer students the opportunity to share in the competition prize pool, which will reach $10,000 (or $5,000 for the winner of each competition). These finals will be broadcast live in English and Arabic and will include other events such as watch parties with local anchors and influencers.
Gaming is increasingly important in the region
According to a report by Statista, gaming revenue has soared since January 2021, with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Morocco raking in millions of dollars from the gaming industry. Saudi Arabia topped the list with more than $680 million in revenue, followed by the United Arab Emirates with $280 million. With the growing number of gamers in the MENA region, more and more businesses are looking to meet the expectations of this large audience.
