Abu Dhabi to host Middle East’s first women’s world title fight

Undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill will take on WBC and IBF super flyweight Chantelle Cameron (above) at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on November 5 .

The first women’s world title fight in the Middle East will take place in Abu Dhabi on 5 November, with American Jessica McCaskill taking on Britain’s Jessica McCaskill at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island. Chantelle Cameron, vying for the undisputed super lightweight world title.

McCaskill, the undisputed defending welterweight champion, will take on WBC/IBF light welterweight champion Cameron after McCaskill dropped weight to improve her pound-for-pound credentials . Organised by Matchroom Boxing and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the big tournament was part of the inaugural fight card of the Champions Series, featuring Russian star Dmitry Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight title defending against Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.

The undefeated Cameron (15-0, 8 KOs), commonly known as “Il Capo,” has held the WBC Women’s Light Welterweight Championship since 2020, having previously won the World Championship in two heavyweight divisions. In May, she successfully defended her title by defeating former world champion Victoria Noelia Bustos in London. The Briton has also won the IBF and Ring women’s light welterweight title since 2021, and the IBO women’s lightweight title between 2017 and 2019.

In the other corner, McCaskill (12-2, 5 KOs) has won the undisputed, IBO and ring women’s welterweight title since 2020 and the WBC women’s super flyweight from 2018 to 2020 Champion, and the WBA Women’s Super Bantamweight Champion. 2019-2020. Nicknamed CasKILLA, she recently defeated Alma Ibarra of Mexico to complete her third successful defense of the welterweight title. The Missouri veteran decided to drop a division down to 140 pounds again to secure the fight against Cameron, which she has long been fighting for.
