Abu Dhabi to host space conference to strengthen cooperation, advance industry

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi will host a space conference this December to foster dialogue and address key issues in the field.

The Abu Dhabi Space Debate will take place from 5-6 December and is organised by the UAE Space Agency. The two-day event will provide space leaders and policymakers with a platform to examine the opportunities and challenges facing the industry. It will also aim to foster global dialogue and cooperation among countries, build concrete alliances, and provide a platform to advance the industry as a whole.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said: “The UAE is proud to host the Abu Dhabi Space Debate in December. The event is a platform for new international policies and develop solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in the global space sector.”

The first Abu Dhabi Space Debate will bring together stakeholders from the public and private space sectors from around the world, especially from China, Europe, India, South Korea, the UK and the US.

“We have seen a huge expansion of organisations developing space capabilities and potential, but the growth of the sector has created challenges, from safeguarding national interests to regulating private sector players,” said Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, US Secretary of State for the UAE Space Agency and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Space Debate Committee on Public Education and Advanced Technology said.

“The Abu Dhabi Space Debate aims to create a global platform that will bring together a diverse and challenging audience and make concrete progress in advancing international cooperation, standards and policy development in the space sector.”

“As we achieve our long-term ambitions in space, the first steps of which are clearly outlined in our National Space Strategy 2030, we cannot overemphasize the importance of international cooperation to our plans. Our space programme is built on partnership with Europe, On top of the collaboration of partners in Korea, the US, Japan and elsewhere,” Al Amiri noted.

The UAE’s space sector has made significant progress, with the country operating 19 Earth-orbiting satellites and 10 more in development. It also became the first Arab country to launch a space mission to Mars last year.
