Abu Dhabi to launch TeamLab Phenomena on Saadiyat Island

[ad_1]

The latest addition to the UAE capital’s Saadiyat Cultural District is an immersive, multi-sensory venue called teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. The 17,000-square-meter experimental interactive space, developed with Japanese art collective teamLab, will be completed in 2024.

A home full of boundless curiosity

The UAE Capital’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, has teamed up with Japanese art collective teamLab to create a one-of-a-kind immersive and interactive experience.

Known as the “New Home of the World of Infinite Curiosity”, this is where technology, science, art and nature meet.

To get a glimpse of “teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi”, we visited the project’s pop-up studio and toured some of the artwork.

Visitors to this venue in Abu Dhabi will soon realize that things are a little different on the ground. Especially since there are no floor plans. You can find your way in the creative space.

You also don’t need to keep your distance from the artwork. Hands-on practice is highly encouraged.

Perhaps most surprising, the artwork smells as good as it looks.

Some of the key players in teamLabs are from Japan and aim to elucidate sensory experiences.

Founded in 2001, this international team of artists, engineers and architects explores the relationship between “self” and “world” through a new understanding of art.

“We are interested in how the environment breathes life into Phenomena,” said group founder Toshiyuki Inoko. “And how Phenomena breathes life into artwork.” We’re interested in how we can expand our understanding of the planet. In Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s leading cities of the future, we can further expand human perception of the future. I am honored to be able to take on such a challenge. “

Cultural ties in Abu Dhabi

Saadiyat Natural Island is the cultural link of Abu Dhabi.

Over the past five years, the UAE capital has strategically developed its creative industries – giving birth to flagship projects like the Saadiyat Cultural District, which was founded by Mohammad Khalifa Al Muba, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi A place that Lark encourages visitors to explore: it is already home to the Louvre and the Louvre. Soon there will be the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Abraham family home.

And, of course, there’s another cultural attraction that’s about to make waves: Phenomenon

“Phenomena – this is such a philosophical place, we want you to be this critical intellectual thinker,” Al Mubarak said. “So, for us, the concepts of discovery, imagination and curiosity are the cornerstones of a thriving human being…that’s what a phenomenon is all about. It pushes you to accept whatever you have to see…truly Celebrate your imagination, your curiosity, and discover the world in front of you.”

In terms of young people, what do you want them to take away from the Emirati youth of today and tomorrow?

“I mean, our leadership keeps saying ‘impossible’ is just a concept,” Mubarak said. “Anything is possible if you work for it — or you dream it. And we’re not afraid to dream here. Instead, we tell you to dream. We’ll tell future generations to dream. Be curious. We want you to explore. There are no barriers in front of you. I think that’s what we’re trying to create in this cultural district. All these fantastic museums are educational institutions. They’ll help build the cornerstone of a thriving, forward-thinking society.”

And your favorite room?

“There’s a space we call the ‘infinite forest,'” he said. “For me, that’s something very, very special. Obviously, I’m working on this in my head, because right now there’s just nice CGI or nice drawings. I imagine myself in the center of these giants, almost taking your trunk, you You know, a few meters tall. Then they come to life. They come to life with touch. They come to life with movement. I’m sure, you know, just being in that space inspires so many people.”

Visitors will soon see for themselves, and it won’t be long before the capital’s multi-sensory artistic ambitions become virtual reality.
