The move is in line with a long-term vision of improving lifestyle habits, helping people live longer, healthier lives while easing pressure on healthcare services.

“As such, the launch of the SEHHI program is in line with our vision for a healthy, safe society by consolidating the efforts of various stakeholders in the ecosystem to ensure access to healthy food and promote more informed and educated dietary choices.”

A recent study made it clearer Obesity in the Bay Areayoung people are said to save for future problems by gaining weight.

About a third of university students in the UAE are overweight or obese, and scientists have warned that this could increase as the generation ages, the study said.

Dr. Omniyat Al Hajeri, Executive Director of Community Health at ADPHC, said the programme underscores the importance of adopting a balanced diet.

“The SEHHI program will support and empower communities to make informed decisions about food consumption,” said Dr. Al Hajeri.

“Through the SEHHI program, ADPHC ensures access to all consumer touchpoints to encourage better dietary decisions. We strongly urge the community to follow healthy eating habits and ensure they eat a balanced diet.”

How the health drive will work

A comprehensive classification process has been established to identify foods that fall under the SEHHI program, with criteria taking into account calorie count, total fat, saturated and trans fat, sugar, salt, and amount of fiber.

Food stores can also enter details about their food into a digital platform that will review and analyze the nutritional value of their dishes to identify SEHHI-compliant dishes.

Participating agencies will receive instruction and training on the program, while the public will receive information on how to improve their diets.

“As obesity and sedentary lifestyles prevail globally and locally, encouraging balanced and nutritious dietary choices is critical to the overall health of society and is consistent with ADPHC’s vision of a healthy and safe society through the promotion of prevention and public health ,” the center said, in a statement issued by Wam.
