Abu Dhabi, UAE: Honorable Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, UAE Minister of Education, under the patronage of HE Dr. Abu Dhabi University (ADU) Wrapped up the 10th annual Undergraduate Research Competition (URC) in mixed form. The competition provides a platform for students to translate their innovative ideas into research and creative projects. In addition to enhancing their skills and nurturing the next generation of creators, innovators, entrepreneurs and researchers, contributing to the future and sustainable development of the UAE’s knowledge economy.
Sponsored by ExxonMobil and Raytheon Emirates, the competition saw participation from Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Yemen. In addition, 600 campus guests participated, 500 of whom participated virtually.
As an integral part of ADU’s vision, the University aims to enhance students’ confidence and research skills by enabling them to translate their projects into innovative business ideas and explore new areas of their field of study.
The competition received more than 400 entries from 64 universities in 14 countries. Teams have the opportunity to submit their research projects to ADU’s ‘Launchpad’ programme, which aims to support selected students by providing them with additional mentoring and funding to take their promising projects from idea to market commercialization.
During the competition, 59 teams from participating universities were awarded in 19 categories for their outstanding research ideas, including three teams receiving Launchpad Start-up Initiative Awards.

ADU’s URC is the largest undergraduate research event in the GCC and MENA region, targeting all major programs and serving as a scientific platform for universities to showcase their undergraduate scientific research. URC is a ‘learning through research’ program that enables young researchers to develop and improve valuable 21st century skills, including critical and analytical thinking, collaboration, communication and problem solving.
