Abu Dhabi Civil Defence showcased a Thermite robot equivalent to 10 firefighters at Gitex Global. Equipped with a spout that can pump 2,500 gallons of water per minute, the robot will be extremely helpful in fighting fires in high-risk areas.
“The biggest benefit of using this robot is that even if it is destroyed in a fire, we can still replace it,” said an Abu Dhabi Civil Defence spokesman. “But if you lose a life, it’s irreplaceable.”
Main features:
- The Thermite Robot has two water jets – the larger one can spray water onto objects on fire, while the smaller one can be used for a more controlled spray.
- Running on diesel, it can run continuously for 20 hours without refilling.
- It can be controlled using a remote control from a distance of up to 300 meters.
- A dedicated arm on the front of the robot can push through obstacles weighing up to 1.5 tons.
- A hook with retractable wire on the rear of the robot can pull objects weighing up to 4 tons from the fire.
- A large exhaust fan at the rear of the larger water outlet can be used to extract smoke.
“Sometimes when a car catches fire in a tunnel, the entire tunnel is filled with smoke,” the spokesman said. “This robot will help clear the tunnel and put out the fire at the same time.”
The robot is also equipped with temperature sensors, cameras and wheels, allowing it to operate on rough terrain, including train tracks.
