Abu Dhabi was named the smartest city in the Middle East and North Africa for the second year in a row

In the annual IMD-SUTD Smart City Index (SCI) jointly released by the IMD (Institute for Management Development) World Competitiveness Center and Singapore today, Abu Dhabi was named the “smartest city in the Middle East and North Africa for the second consecutive year” “University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

His Excellency Falah Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMT), said: “Abu Dhabi has always been committed to integrating the design of future smart cities; the vision of our leadership and the joint efforts of all government entities have always been the emirate’s pursuit of significant development and progress to improve The cornerstone of the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.”

He added: “Our smart economy and social development roadmap focuses on the use of advanced smart service plans that contribute to all important sectors, while DMT is working hard to build smart and interactive data-driven systems and platforms to develop a long-term Strategy enables us to realize the wishes of the people.

“We see the new ranking as a driving force for more achievements, by applying best practices and standards that emphasize the leadership role of the emirate in future urban development, and inheriting the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Naha Young’s legacy has enabled Abu Dhabi to record the best response to the consequences of the pandemic on a global scale, form a unique experience in social, economic and scientific development, and form the basis of social development,” he concluded.

The Smart City Index is an important report prepared for international organizations, institutions and policy makers to measure the impact of national strategies on improving well-being, making progress, and improving people’s quality of life.
