A construction worker who was seriously injured on the job was awarded Dh110,000 in compensation.
Court records show the man was hit by a “falling object” while working on a construction site in Abu Dhabi. He had to spend several weeks in hospital to recover.
The accident was dealt with in the Criminal Court and the company was subsequently fined Dh10,000 for its negligence and failure to provide workers with safety equipment.
The employee subsequently filed a civil suit against the company, seeking Dh170,000 in damages he suffered as a result of the incident.
The court of first instance had earlier issued a ruling ordering the company to pay the worker Dh110,000. The company challenged the appeals court decision, which upheld the original sentence.
The employer must also cover the worker’s legal costs.
