The world’s leading hotel group, Accor, plans to grow its presence in the South Caucasus and Central Asia by more than 60% by 2023 following a series of strategic signings.
In 2022, the Group signed 15 new projects under six hotel brands, adding more than 2,100 rooms to its existing portfolio of 24 hotels in these regions. Accor will open nine hotels in the region in 2023, five of which were signed in 2022.
New Accor hotels will open in the famous capitals – Baku, Azerbaijan; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and Tbilisi, Georgia. The group’s brands will also debut in picturesque resorts such as Kobuleti in Georgia, Charvak Lake in Uzbekistan and Tsaghkadzor in Armenia. Growth in the region is led by Mercure, Accor’s globally renowned “global localized” midscale brand, with six hotels signed in the region in 2022.
Mercure Hotels combines the benefits of an international network of nearly 1,000 hotels with authentic local hospitality. A third of the hotels signed in 2022 are from the group’s leading premium brands Mövenpick and Swissôtel, which will bring a further five hotels to the region in the coming years. This year alone, Accor will open three Mövenpick hotels and two Swissôtel properties in Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, introducing legendary brands with Swiss heritage in new destinations and delivering services according to the highest international hotel standards.
In 2022, Accor opened five hotels in South Caucasus and Central Asia with a total of 619 rooms, ranging from budget to high-end brands – ibis budget, Mercure, Novotel Living and Pullman – consolidated Accor’s presence in these The area’s influence and commitment to development, offering guests exceptional location, design and exclusive opportunities.

Georgia
In 2022, the Group reaffirms its commitment to supporting Georgia’s tourism industry and strengthening its position in the country. The group will launch new hotels in Georgia: in particular, Novotel Tbilisi Center and Swissotel Tbilisi are scheduled to open in 2023. Following the signing in 2022, the first hotel in the Kakheti area – Mercure Telavi Resort – will open in 2025.
Paying homage to Georgia’s most popular resort, Accor will open Mövenpick Kobuleti in 2026 in Kobuleti, Adjara’s second largest city and one of the country’s most popular resorts, in partnership with Georgia’s leading development company, Archi. The 120-room hotel will be located in a new high-rise building on the Black Sea coast, within walking distance of the beach. Thanks to the Mövenpick Family Plan, adults and children will really enjoy spending time together. Guests will be able to try one of Mövenpick’s signature experiences – the “Chocolate Hour”, which offers a variety of chocolate desserts every day.
Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan remains one of Accor’s priority markets. Kazakhstan recorded nearly 200,000 international tourists visiting the country last year. Accor is strengthening its presence in Kazakhstan and expanding its services in the region in line with the post-pandemic trend of extended stay travel. In March 2022, Accor’s new Novotel Living brand debuted in the region – Novotel Living Almaty Jetisu opened in Almaty on the site of one of Kazakhstan’s oldest hotels after extensive reconstruction. Accor Group has ambitions to introduce new projects in Kazakhstan in the coming years.
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has become a new country on Accor’s map. In December, the first Accor hotels opened in the country: Mercure Tashkent and Mercure Bukhara Old Town. Uzbekistan is even more important for Accor in 2023. Earlier this year, the group’s hotel collection will expand with the opening of the Mövenpick Hotel Samarkand, while another hotel under the Swissôtel brand will debut in Tashkent in the summer. The Swissotel in Charvak, the Mercure in Khiva and the Ibis in Tashkent will open in the next few years. In addition, the group is negotiating new signings in the country, including a luxury hotel in the capital, as well as new projects in several regions, including the Fergana Valley, Nukus and other major cities.
armenia
Accor’s network in Armenia continues to strengthen with the imminent opening of the first Mercure hotel in Tsaghkadzor, one of the country’s most popular ski and wellness resorts. Scheduled to open in 2023, it will be the first of many new projects in Armenia in the coming years.
Azerbaijan
Accor will open two new hotels in Azerbaijan in 2023. Combining modern design with ethnic touches, Mercure Baku City is located in the heart of the city, just a short walk from major attractions. Later this year, Accor will launch the premium Mövenpick Winter Park Baku, which will be located in the territory of Winter Park, near the large pedestrian and shopping street – Nizami Street.
