Roommates, fear spread to several campuses on Tuesday Black colleges and universities in history. The list of threatened schools includes: Howard University, University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, Florida Memorial University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Central University, Texas Prairie A&M University, and Xavier University. Despite the shocking news, as of Wednesday morning, there have been no reports of actual explosions.

HBCU statement

Howard University issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon stating that “everything is normal” on the campus.

“This afternoon, the Howard Department of Public Safety (DPS) and MPD responded to potential bomb threats on campus,” Howard University officials wrote on Twitter. “The surrounding area is protected and searched. No moving equipment was found and the area has been cleaned up.”

Norfolk State University also used the same platform as Howard to post similar information.

“The NSU Police Department completed its investigation of the bomb threat received on Tuesday night and issued a “clear all”. The students have been placed in the hotel and the dormitory has been closed until 8 AM on Wednesday morning,” NSU tweeted. “NSU police and authorities protected the campus. For emergencies, please call NSU at 757-823-9000.”

Texas Southern University used what appears to be a third-party application to publish a broadcast message.

“Happy New Year! This just reminds you to be vigilant and pay attention to your surroundings,” TSU wrote. “Today, several HBCUs received calls about potential threats on their campus. All threats are unfounded. Nevertheless, please continue to be vigilant and safe both on and off campus. As always, stay safe and healthy.”

No connection between threats

Currently, there seems to be no connection between all threats or racial motives. According to the Washington Post, each school reportedly sent clear notices to their communities.

This is a story of development.
