AD Ports Group and CMA CGM Group announced that they have agreed to invest AED 570 million to build a new terminal in Khalifa Port

AD Ports Group, the major logistics, industry and trade promoters in the region, and France-based CMA CGM Group (the world leader in shipping and logistics) announced the signing of a 35-year franchise agreement.

According to the terms of the agreement, a new terminal will be established at Khalifa Port, the first semi-automated container port in the Gulf Cooperation Council region. The terminal will be a joint venture owned by CMA CGM CGM Terminal (which owns 70% of shares), a subsidiary of CMA CGM Management) and AD Ports Group (30% of the shares). The partners are expected to invest approximately 570 million dirhams ($154 million) for the project.

The most advanced terminal that accompanies the development of Khalifa Port

The construction of the new terminal will start in 2021, and the new terminal will be delivered in 2024. The initial terminal length of the first phase is 800 meters, and the annual throughput is expected to be 1.8 million TEUs. AD Ports Group will be responsible for the development of various supporting marine projects and infrastructure. This includes a total length of 1,200 meters of dock walls, a 3,800 meters of breakwater, a fully completed railway platform and 700,000 square meters of dock yard.

The terminal will provide a new regional hub for CMA CGM ships and enable the group to develop its service offerings between Abu Dhabi and South Asia, West Asia, East Africa, Europe and the Mediterranean, and the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

Through this major investment, CMA CGM is promoting its global expansion strategy as a leading terminal operator. The group currently operates 49 port terminals in 27 countries/regions through its subsidiaries CMA Terminals and Terminal Link.
