This kind of story usually only happens in movies.
Adam Imada ’06, he won his Film Studies Degree At Chapman University, he started his career 15 years ago in the mailroom of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Today, he is Executive Director of Production and Post Solutions.
“It’s been a really interesting journey,” Adam said. “I started with a sound shipping department and moved to inventory, billing, junior engineering and management over a two-year period, so it was a steep learning curve.”
Adam manages a department responsible for deploying and supporting picture editing systems for film and television productions—the hardware and software that picture editors use to assemble films in post-production. His department also oversees the production sound for the Culver City lot.
During his tenure, he provided over 400 productions for Sony Pictures Film Group including Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Television, including Spider-Man: Nowhere and Bullet Train, among others Drama productions, as well as TV shows such as “The Black List,” “The Good Doctor,” and “The Boys.”
Adam is married to Chapman alumna Jennifer Graham Imada ’09, a TV writer and producer. He said: “Beyond work, I’m just a normal husband and father. I’m trying to teach my 3-year-old daughter how to play Mario Kart and my son is a year old and just starting to walk, so it’s boring. I My wife has been joking that I’m obsessed with burritos, but I think those jokes are slowly turning into real concerns after realizing that most of the employees at our local Chipotle recognize me and don’t need to ask me what I want anymore .”
We asked him about his time at Chapman and how it affected his career.
Who was the biggest influence on you at Chapman? Why?
Professor Michael Kowalski and Professor Harry Cheney both had the most memorable impact while attending Chapman.I remember enjoying their class and they all approached Movies and TV have such a positive attitude.I also learned a lot in their classes, which led to I am interested in sound work.
If you could go back in time and experience your Chapman moment again, what would it be? Do you do it differently?
While there is no specific moment, I did enjoy my first few months Freshman.I wish I could do more outside my comfort zone if I can live again.There’s a magical feeling when you realize you’re playing You yourself are in a similar boat with a group of people.For me it’s the right combination Excitement, freedom, fear and innocence.
What do you wish you knew when you graduated? What do you know now? What advice can you give today’s students and/or recent graduates?
I can only speak from personal experience as everyone has a different path and Target. Looking back, I wish my focus wasn’t so narrow. If I could do it all over again, I will take courses that are completely unrelated to my end goal.i think it It’s important to immerse yourself in areas that may be counterintuitive because I find that It helped me develop a more comprehensive perspective and introduced me to A bunch of people I wouldn’t have met otherwise.
How does Chapman prepare you for your career? for life? How has your experience prepared you for the real world?
I like to think that I learned a lot in class.I think it is equally important that The people and relationships I develop there.I know there are no those I can’t be who I am today.
As a young college student, do you have any major social problems in our country/world?
I feel very lucky. I don’t remember how many social challenges there were when I was a college student. Either that, or I’m just reminiscing about the past with rose-tinted glasses.
