- ADDED and GE Digital explore circular economy strategies for a more sustainable future
Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GE Digital (NYSE: GE) to accelerate the digitalisation of UAE manufacturing by leveraging innovative solutions to strengthen the UAE’s manufacturing sector transformation. As a global hub for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0).
The agreement, signed by His Excellency Sameh Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Director of Economic Affairs, ADDED, and Dr. Dalya Al Muthanna, President of GE UAE and Head of Global Strategy and Operations for GE International Markets, follows the “Make it in UAE Forum” as part of the UAE’s plan to revitalize industries.
ADDED and GE Digital will collaborate on circular economy strategies to drive more productive, competitive, advanced and innovative industries while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.
His Excellency Sami Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director of Economic Affairs, Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi, said: “This partnership with GE is a testament to our efforts to ensure Abu Dhabi’s smart and circular economy is supported by strong alliances and clear goals. Manufacturing is the largest non-oil contributor to GDP, estimated to be Abu Dhabi’s GDP increased by AED83.5 billion. Such initiatives with strategic global partners will lead the industrial sector to play a greater role in economic diversification, thereby increasing its contribution to the economy.”
His Excellency added: “Abu Dhabi is inspiring manufacturers by empowering them to transition to Industry 4.0 technologies. We will continue to support and pave the way for future industries based on sustainable, smart, innovative approaches and practices”.
Through this agreement, GE Digital will provide its expertise to accelerate the pace of technological transformation in the industrial sector and share best practices in designing and launching incentive programmes to drive the transition to Industry 4.0 applications, supporting sustainable development and circularity in the UAE Economic Initiatives. GE Digital will also work closely with ADDED to deliver skills development programs to increase the diverse technical knowledge of the manufacturing community, in line with the Abu Dhabi Government’s vision to upskill human capital and build a future-ready workforce.
Manufacturing in the UAE plays a pivotal role in the diversification of the national economy, with Abu Dhabi accounting for 40%, investing more than AED 51 billion over the past 15 years to build a strong industrial infrastructure. Such initiatives by ADDED and GE Digital can help accelerate the adoption of circular manufacturing operations and realize the technological efficiencies provided by advancements in Industry 4.0. GE will provide consulting services on designing programs to support the industry’s digital transformation.
