ADIB becomes the first UAE bank to use facial recognition for instant and secure account opening

The Islamic Bank of Abu Dhabi (ADIB), in line with the UAE government’s vision to promote digital services, announced that it will open accounts remotely and digitally. With secure access to the facial recognition verification system of the Ministry of the Interior, ADIB became the first bank in the UAE to perform instant and highly secure verification before opening a new account.

ADIB’s new service helps verify the identity details of the account holder by using the MoI facial recognition system. The verification process is seamless and efficient, and uses enhanced security measures to prevent fraud and other forms of identity theft.

The technology will enable UAE citizens and residents to open a new ADIB account remotely, giving them instant access to banking services without having to visit the bank.

In response, Sameh Awadallah, head of ADIB branch network, commented: “Together with MoI, for the first time in the UAE, residents can open instant digital accounts in a safe and seamless manner. The use of facial recognition system is the implementation of ADIB based on artificial intelligence ( AI) is a key step in emerging technologies. Therefore, in accordance with the UAE’s digital agenda, we have been launching digital solutions for many years to provide banks with a more convenient and seamless way.

Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Shamsi, Head of the Artificial Intelligence System and Service Development Team of the Directorate General of Security Support, Ministry of the Interior, said: “We are delighted to work with ADIB to provide digital solutions to enhance the UAE. Lieutenant Colonel Al Shamsi added that the Ministry of the Interior actively invests in new technologies and uses them in innovative ways to develop services, and is keen to follow the instructions of the UAE government to adopt the best modern technological services in the digital field. For many years, the Ministry has been promoting the development of facial recognition system services within the working system. He emphasized that this is a pioneering path of government work, providing intelligent services that exceed customer expectations, and is committed to strengthening safety and security processes.

He pointed out that in accordance with the instructions of the UAE Cabinet, the Ministry of the Interior is working with all government agencies and ministries and the private sector to develop services based on facial recognition technology and spread this innovative technology that relies on artificial intelligence features to the UAE. Meet the needs of government work and the private sector. This aims to promote customer procedures and improve the quality of digital life in UAE society.

The facial recognition system service can currently be used to open an account on the ADIB mobile banking application. To open an account, UAE residents can download the ADIB mobile app and follow the instructions. Just take a personal photo, scan a passport and click on the UAE ID on the device. The app can use the built-in chip to read data near field communication ( NFC).

The tool will scan the user’s face and immediately match it with the ministry’s facial recognition system. After the match is successful, ADIB will send an SMS-OTP to the user’s registered mobile phone number for verification, and then the user can create his/her preferred credential.
