Adjaye Associates’ Abraham Family House, an interfaith complex in Abu Dhabi, opens to the public
designer Adjaye Associationthe Abraham Family House is a landmark project located in Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The center includes three separate houses of worship: a mosque, a church and a synagogue, as well as spaces for gathering and dialogue. First published in 2019 After an international competition, the interfaith complex was officially inaugurated and opened to the faithful on February 16, 2023. From March 1, 2023, visitors can enter the forum and take guided tours.
The complex is intended to be a center of learning and dialogue, inviting visitors to participate in religious services, guided tours, celebrations and opportunities to explore faith. Guided tours of the 6,500-square-meter complex are scheduled daily, where guides will show visitors the specific design features chosen for each faith’s specific practices and traditions. The exterior shape of each house is a cube of 30x30x30 meters. These dimensions equalize the volumes of the three houses and create a visual harmony within the complex, while specific design decisions differentiate the architectural expression of each volume. A single-story plinth forms the main forum, surrounded by three chapels.
