ADJD Abu Dhabi Community Legal Awareness Centre launches a broad awareness campaign on the dangers of cybercrime

Under the slogan “Stay Safe”, the Abu Dhabi Community Legal Awareness Centre ‘Masouliya’ of the Abu Dhabi Judiciary has launched a wide-ranging awareness campaign about the dangers of cybercrime with the aim of disseminating information to members of society about the dangers of cybercrime Legal Awareness. These crimes are to ensure their safety and protection, especially given the widespread use of social media.

The campaign, which will last three months from the beginning of September to the end of November 2022, is carried out within the framework of the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Executive Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and the head of the Abu Dhabi Judiciary to promote legal culture among community members and maintain security and stability.

The event, organised by the Centre in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Education and Knowledge, a number of universities, the media and the press and relevant government agencies, included a series of advocacy talks at schools and universities, in addition to raising awareness on various social media, This includes over 30 lectures and promotional publications on audio, video and written media, as well as social media platforms.

The campaign focuses on educating parents on how to protect their children from cybercrime before they become culprits or victims.This is done through the use of modern technological means such as radio stations and TV channels, as well as lectures in schools, universities and government agencies.

The event highlights the dangers of cybercrime and e-extortion, the associated legal penalties, while focusing on the causes and factors that lead community members to become victims of e-extortion, the risks of misuse of social networking sites, and the legal responsibilities of users. Federal Decree No. 34 of 2021 on the fight against rumours and cybercrime.Additionally, many of the actual cases will be sourced from real case files in Abu Dhabi courts.

The event also presents the most prominent warnings and controls that people must heed when accessing the internet to ensure safe use of all technical media and to avoid any attempt that could compromise an individual’s safety or turn them into victims, or avoid any possible conduct that exposes them to legal liability.
