[ad_1]

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Corporation (ADNEC) today announced its commitment to net zero carbon activities, committing to hold a net zero carbon footprint event by 2050, as it creates and supports a greener future for the MICE industry. This commitment is part of a new global initiative that stems from the work of an organization working group initiated by leading event industry stakeholders through global industry trade associations. These include the Global Exhibition Industry Association (UFI), the International Conference Center Association (AIPC), and the International Conference and Convention Association (ICCA), as well as representatives from major stakeholders in the global exhibition industry.

As one of the first UAE entities to commit to a net zero carbon event, ADNEC is committed to ensuring the sustainable development of the UAE, regional and world MICE industry, and leading the industry’s efforts in the entire value chain while actively promoting and advocating environmental protection.

ADNEC’s commitment also supports the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s net-zero strategic plan to reduce carbon by 2050, during which the country will spend more than AED600 billion on renewable energy. This incremental approach is consistent with the UAE’s leading position in this field. The region took extensive climate change actions and became the first country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to make a net zero commitment.

In addition, ADNEC is supporting global efforts to combat climate change. The announcement was issued after the signing of the Net Zero Carbon Event Commitment, which is a new industry initiative to address climate change and coincides with the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

As an important global event, COP26 aims to bring the world together and accelerate actions to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Through its commitment, ADNEC will be able to support the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2030 and reduce total global greenhouse gas emissions by 50%.

Commenting on the signing of the commitment, Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, ADNEC Group Managing Director and Group CEO, said“Now is a critical moment for global action, and we are honored to be able to support the sustainable future of the MICE industry. As the center of major global events, entities have the opportunity to emulate the inspiring example of our wise leaders who regard climate change action as an urgent need Priorities. Through our net zero commitment, we are eager to bring meaningful changes to the entire value chain of the MICE industry.”

He added“Our long-term partnership with the Global Exhibition Industry Association (UFI) reinforces the signing of this commitment. They play a key role in shaping the important dialogues in our business. We are very happy to join them and other venues and organizers. , Exhibitors and suppliers promote the industry to achieve net zero. The event is a key driver of the dialogue, and we look forward to rethinking how to use our resources and infrastructure to connect with stakeholders and partners in a sustainable way.”

ADNEC’s Net Zero Commitment will take the form of strategic planning and actions to ensure that its operations achieve its goal or net zero carbon emissions by 2050, while also affecting the entire value chain to take sustainable and measurable actions.

Its plan includes; Identify and prioritize actions to reduce emissions, such as energy management, water conservation, material management, reduction of food and beverage waste, housekeeping plans, sustainable procurement, stakeholder management and employee participation, and set accordingly Target. In addition, ADNEC will purchase reliable carbon offsets to solve the once minimized residual emissions, while focusing on the transition to carbon removal and carbon capture. It will also contribute resources to formulate a collective low-carbon roadmap for the event industry, and cooperate with partners, suppliers and customers to promote the transformation of the entire value chain. Finally, ADNEC will share best practices with the industry to help influence the broader impact of its green initiatives.
