Adnoc and SeaOwl design remote-controlled offshore supply vessel

[ad_1]

Adnoc Logistics & Services (Adnoc L&S), the shipping and marine logistics arm of Adnoc, said it had signed an agreement with SeaOwl to design an unmanned remotely operated vessel (ROV) capable of moving vehicles, equipment and supplies to and from offshore location.

Seaowl, a French company specializing in the automation and digitization of maritime services, will collaborate with Bureau Veritas (BV), a world-leading testing, inspection and certification company, to facilitate the obtaining of the necessary sailing licenses from the UAE Maritime Transport Authority.

Under the agreement, it will design the ship, oversee its construction, and facilitate sailing permits.

The 55m long ROV will be designed to allow the vessel to be operated from an onshore control room via satellite link using the latest automation and self-navigation technology.

It said the design would utilize state-of-the-art artificial intelligence systems to control propulsion, dynamic positioning, long-range communications and cybersecurity.

According to Adnoc, the innovative design of the ROV will reduce carbon emissions by up to 30% as the vessel will be lighter and smaller as no crew facilities are required.

Additionally, the intelligent automated system will optimize routes and propulsion, further decarbonizing Adnoc L&S’s offshore operations in support of the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategic Initiative and Adnoc’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

The agreement was signed by Adnoc L&S CEO Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi and SeaOwl CEO Xavier Génin at the UAE Climate Technology Forum organized by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.

“A strategic commitment to sustainability and innovation plays a vital role in Adnoc L&S’ ability to serve its clients,” said Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, Chief Executive Officer of Adnoc L&S.

“This vessel is another example of that commitment as we utilize the latest technology to optimize our maritime operations, reduce our carbon footprint and improve safety while increasing efficiency,” he said.

Xavier Génin, CEO of SeaOwl, said: “Following the success of the French government-backed proof of concept, we are delighted to join forces with Adnoc L&S to usher in a new era of sustainable logistics operations through digital automation. The project will be in harmony with the UAE’s industrial landscape, as We plan to involve many other Emirati participants in this exciting journey.”

“This design will improve safety and reduce operating costs, as the vessels will be able to operate in harsher conditions without exposing seafarers,” Genin noted.

He added that when construction is complete, the ROV will join Adnoc L&S’s large and diverse fleet of modern and technologically advanced vessels.-TradeArabia News Service
