Adnoc Logistics and Services today (20 June) took delivery of a newbuild Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Hafeet.
The vessel, the first of four dual-fuel engine VLCCs, which can also operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG), will be delivered this year to support the company’s smart growth strategy.
Adnoc L&S says it has committed around $2 billion to building greener ships and has reduced the carbon intensity of its own fleet by more than 20% since 2018.
Chief Executive Officer Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi said the Hafeet is the first of four newbuild VLCCs in the group’s expanding fleet, which will increase its energy transport capacity.
“Our strategic investment in new environmentally friendly vessels reinforces our commitment to more sustainable shipping and reducing the carbon intensity of our operations. We continue to work towards the IMO’s decarbonization target of reducing the international annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions halve the volume of shipments by 2050,” he noted.
Designed for long-haul crude oil voyages to customers around the world, the VLCC Hafeet is 336 meters long, has a deadweight of 300,000 tonnes, and carries around 2 million barrels of crude oil per voyage.
The company’s second newbuild VLCC is due to be delivered later this month, with the third and fourth ships scheduled for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2023, respectively.
The vessels, which are being built by Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering) at its Okpo shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, are expected to trade in the spot market.trade arab news agency
