On December 28, 2022, Edge Group’s ADSB (Abu Dhabi Shipyard) PJSC announced the inauguration of the UAE Navy’s first Falaj 3-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV).

Abu Dhabi Shipyards (“ADSB”) is pleased to announce the commencement of production of the Falaj3 class of fast patrol vessels, with a steel cutting ceremony for the first vessel (FOC) held at ADSB Shipyard on 21 December 2022.This milestone represents the successful completion of the design phase and confirms ADSB’s capabilities and its determination to remain a leader and strategic partner in military shipbuilding UAE Ministry of Defense.
ADSB has been awarded a contract to build four Falaj 3-class fast patrol vessels (FPVs) for the UAE Navy in 2021. With the invaluable support of its partners and the UAE Navy, it has successfully completed the design phase of the project on schedule. The Falaj 3-class FPV is a complex high-speed warship equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and combat systems and will be a significant addition to the capabilities of the UAE Navy.

About the Falaj 3 project:
In May 2021, ADSB was awarded a AED3.5 billion (approximately US$950 million) contract by the UAE Ministry of Defense and the UAE Navy to build four Falaj 3-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).This is the largest order the company has ever received. ADB contracted Singapore ST Engineering company For basic design, detailed design and production design of ships. In addition, technical support will be provided for the construction of the first ship of this class.
As part of the project, the United Arab Emirates Navy will take delivery of four Falaj 3-class OPVs. The 60-meter vessels will be based on ST Engineering’s Fearless-class patrol boats. The Falaj 3 is designed to reduce radar cross-section, infrared signature and acoustic signature to provide a stealthy profile at sea.
According to the company’s brochure, the Falaj 3 OPV will be powered by 4 high-performance engines that will use 4 propellers to reach speeds in excess of 26 knots. The ships will be equipped with four generators capable of generating 1.2 megawatts of electricity. Falaj Class 3 vessels will be equipped with an integrated platform management system allowing all platform systems to be monitored from a single point. They also feature an extensive range of safety and firefighting equipment, as well as rigid hull inflatable boats.
