A senior MHA official confirmed that the matter has been formally confirmed and the Ministry of the Interior has held a meeting, which will be chaired by the Minister of the Interior on Thursday to discuss plans to restore tourist visas.
The person in charge said that it will be carried out in stages and open to everyone based on feasibility. The government may only allow vaccinated people to apply for tourist visas.
Tourist visas will be suspended from March 2020, from the date of the first announcement of the blockade. Later, business and employment visas were exempted, but tourist visas were still suspended.
Many Gulf countries have restored tourist visas. Before the suspension of tourist visas, approximately 70-800,000 tourists came to India every month in the past.
India recorded 27,176 new Covid-19 cases and 284 deaths in the past 24 hours on Wednesday. The number of active cases has dropped to 351,000. It has now reported less than 50,000 cases per day for 80 consecutive days.
