After successful trials, Etihad Airways expanded the IATA travel pass for flights between Abu Dhabi and seven destinations in its network as it continues to implement digital solutions to simplify the travel experience after the pandemic.

The IATA Travel Pass is applicable to passengers travelling on all flights between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok, Barcelona, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, New York and Singapore on the Etihad, and provides a convenient one-stop platform to manage COVID-19 Documentation.

Mohamed Al Broki, The Chief Operating Officer of Etihad Airways Group stated: “The feedback from the IATA travel pass trial is positive, and Etihad guests appreciate its ease of use and data security. Etihad Airways is very happy now. IATA travel passes are provided on flights to and from seven major cities around the world, providing more passengers with options to simplify the journey and the airport experience.”

Nick Carlin IATA’s senior vice president responsible for operations, safety and security said: “Etihad Airways’ decision to expand the IATA travel pass based on positive customer feedback is a strong support for the solution. The IATA travel pass aims to provide passengers with a one-stop solution. Plan to manage their COVID-19 files safely and effectively, and generate “OK to Travel” that airlines can trust. It’s great to see that the use of this application has promoted the restart of international travel.”

Etihad Airways is one of the first airlines in the world to begin testing IATA travel passes in April 2021 to support global standardized solutions that allow passengers to verify their documents and understand COVID-19 travel requirements.

To obtain the IATA Travel Pass, guests only need to download the IATA Travel Pass app for Android or iOS, where they can add Etihad Airways travel itineraries, view travel requirements, and safely share PCR test results.

The IATA Travel Pass application also includes the ability to upload vaccination certificates, providing opportunities for travel that requires vaccination. Currently, the application can accept EU digital Covid certificates issued by all 27 member states of the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein, as well as vaccine certificates from Singapore and Qatar. As vaccines continue to be promoted globally, more and more travelers around the world will be able to upload government-issued COVID vaccine certificates to promote seamless travel.

The airline will continue to work closely with IATA to gradually roll out digital travel passes to more cities in its route network.
