According to the police, a missing girl from North Carolina was rescued by Kentucky police after using a hand signal representing domestic violence she learned from TikTok to send a distress signal.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky, the 16-year-old girl from Asheville, North Carolina was reported missing by her parents last week. According to @CNN, two days later, a motorist in Kentucky dialed 911 to report seeing a girl in distress in the car on the interstate.

“The complainant was in the car and noticed that a female passenger in the car made a gesture known on the social media platform’TikTok’ to represent domestic violence-I need help-domestic violence,” according to a report from the agency Statement. Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

According to WYMT, a CNN affiliate, the person who dialed 911 then followed the vehicle for 7 miles while communicating the message to the police. The authorities were then able to pull the car over to park and rescue the teenager.

According to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, gestures are one-handed gestures that a person can use when in distress. The person using the signal raises the hand with the palm facing out, then puts the thumb in the hand, and then closes the fingers to clamp the thumb.

The police told WYMT that the teenager learned gestures on TikTok.

According to the police, the suspect initially took the teenager from North Carolina to Ohio, where he has relatives. The police said that once his relatives discovered that the teenager was a minor and reported missing, they left Ohio.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Sheriff Gilbert Acciardo told WYMT: “We don’t know how long we have been down the interstate from Ohio. She has been doing this to other motorists. I hope they You will notice that she is in a difficult situation, but someone will finally recognize her.”

The police arrested the man, identified as 61-year-old James Brick, and charged him with illegal imprisonment and sexual activity with a minor (over 12 but under 18).

It is unclear how the man kidnapped the teenager or whether he had any relationship with her. We will promptly notify you of any updates.
