In a joint statement, Mercedes, Formula One and motorsports governing body FIA condemned the abuse of Hamilton “in the strongest terms” and demanded punishment of those guilty.

The statement read: “These people have no place in our movement. We urge those responsible for their actions.”

“Formula One, the FIA, drivers and teams are working to create a more diverse and inclusive sport, and this unacceptable online abuse must be emphasized and eliminated.”

Social media giant Facebook said on Monday that it had deleted several comments on Hamilton on Instagram.

“Racist abuse against Hamilton during and after the British Grand Prix is ​​unacceptable, and we have removed some comments from Instagram,” a Facebook spokesperson who owns Instagram said in a statement.

Hamilton is the only black driver in Formula One.

He has always been an outspoken advocate of social justice and a supporter of the “Black Man’s Fate” movement.
