The Aiken Civic Orchestra will be performing two upcoming concerts featuring strings only.
on SundayMarch 19, The Aiken Civic Orchestra will perform a concert called Sensational Strings at 7 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St. NW
Part of the Under the Steeple concert series, the show features the orchestra’s strings section. Students from the Davidson Fine Arts Chamber Orchestra will join the ACO String Orchestra for a side-by-side experience with a large string ensemble under the direction of ACO Music Director Adam DePriest.
The program will include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nachtmusik”, Ernest Bloch’s “Concerto Grosso No. 1”, Carlos Gardel’s “Por Una Cabeza ” and other works. The student orchestra will also feature in a program of George Gershwin’s “Lullaby.” The DFA Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr Laura Tomlin, joined the ACO last April for a concert celebrating young artists.
The Aiken Viola Ensemble will make its debut on Sunday, March 26 as part of ACO’s Aiken Chamber Music Series. The concert will take place at 3 pm in the courtyard of the St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
The Aiken Viola Ensemble is under the direction of Douglas Temples and everything in the program is written or arranged exclusively for the viola.
A $20 donation is suggested for both concerts.
