Latvian airline airBaltic has announced that it will equip its entire fleet of Airbus A220-300s with SpaceX’s Starlink internet connectivity system.
During all airBaltic flights, every passenger will benefit from free in-flight high-speed Internet access without hassle or login pages. From the moment passengers step onto the plane, they have access to the Internet.
Starlink, developed by SpaceX, provides high-speed, low-latency broadband Internet in more than 40 countries and around the world, and last year began providing in-flight high-speed Internet services for commercial aircraft. Starlink satellites are located in low-Earth orbit at an altitude of 550 kilometers, more than 65 times closer than traditional geostationary satellites, thereby enabling significantly lower latency and higher transmission speeds for their end users.
Starlink can provide aircraft with speeds of up to 350 Mbps and latency as low as 20 milliseconds, allowing passengers to engage in activities previously impossible in flight, including online gaming, virtual private networks and other high data rate activities.
Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said: “This marks a historic moment for our airline and for the industry as a whole. Soon, airBaltic will be the first European airline to introduce high-speed, unlimited and free satellite internet on board airline. We are excited to further improve our service to our passengers, who will soon benefit from internet connectivity on our airBaltic network flights across Europe and beyond.”
“We are delighted to have found the right connectivity provider – SpaceX’s Starlink – to meet our needs and fulfill our desires. With the most modern aircraft model on the market, airBaltic is implementing the most modern in-flight Internet solution on this fleet The protocol is the logical next step,” adds Martin Gauss.
“By becoming the first European airline to implement Starlink across its entire fleet, airBaltic is setting new standards to ensure its passengers have the space they need in modern aircraft,” said Jonathan Hofeller, SpaceX’s vice president of Starlink sales. Expected internet experience.”
“With Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet, airBaltic passengers will have similar or better internet than they experience at home. As soon as customers step on the plane, the internet just works, making the stress of landing on pages and downloading large files before boarding a plane a thing of the past .”
airBaltic will work with SpaceX to obtain the required STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) approval and is expected to begin installing the product on airBaltic’s entire Airbus A220-300 fleet this year. – trade arab news agency
