Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, has received a personal message from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
The news was received by President Akufo-Addo when he welcomed Mr. Amer Al-Alawi, Chargé d’affaires ai, UAE Embassy in Accra, to the seat of government at Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, 10 Octoberth August 2022.
During the meeting, Mr. Amer Al-Alawi conveyed to President Akufo-Addo “the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan” and “wish President Akufo-Addo Good health, success, and wish President Akufo-Addo further progress and prosperity. Friendly people of Ghana”.
President Akufo-Addo wished His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan good health, happiness and well-being, and wished the people of the UAE further progress, success and prosperity.
President Akufo-Addo, upon receiving a letter from Mr. Amer Al-Alawi, also expressed his hope that the bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Ghana will continue to grow.
During the meeting, the Chargé d’Affaires briefly reviewed the development of bilateral relations between the UAE and Ghana in various fields, such as joint cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels in international forums and the pursuit of unique opportunities available to both countries. Mr. Amer Al-Alawi finally conveyed the sealed message of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to President Akufo-Addo.
Strong ally of UAE and Ghana
Over the years, Ghana and the UAE have developed into allies with a fully fledged relationship at every level. Both countries currently serve as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council for two-year terms beginning January 1, 2022, as part of the 15 UN bodies charged with maintaining international peace and security.
President Akufo-Addo visited the UAE in November 2019 and signed five (5) agreements in different areas and at various stages of implementation, including a visa waiver agreement between Accra and Abu Dhabi.
Most recently, President Akufo-Addo visited the UAE in March this year as part of Expo 2020 Dubai, where Ghana Day was commemorated and various trade and investment agreements were signed, including a memorandum for the establishment of the UAE-Ghana Business Council .
As part of that visit, President Akufo-Addo was received at the Al Shati’ Royal Residence in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, where he met with the current UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Ahmad His Royal Highness Lenahyan, to discuss issues of interest to both countries.
Also, earlier this year, the Ghanaian government joined global voices in strongly condemning Houthi militias for attacks on civilian areas in the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayok Bochewi called UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nayyan to express Ghana’s strong condemnation and condemnation of the terrorist attack. The ministry then issued an official statement condemning it.
